Welcome to part 5 of my Resident Evil Revelations 2 mini review, this week I will be reviewing the two "bonus" episodes for Resident Evil Revelations 2 named "The Struggle" & "Little Miss" as well as posting my final thoughts on the game as a whole.
NOTE: I highly recommend that you DO NOT play these episodes until after you've completed the main game and have at least gotten the
Story
"The Struggle" - The story for this episode takes place between the
"Little Miss" - The story for this episode takes place in the same time frame as "The Struggle" but follows Natalia as she searches for her lost teddy bear Lottie
Gameplay
"The Struggle" - The gameplay for this episode plays pretty similar to the main game with the main difference being that you have to collect supplies, if you don't collect enough or run out of them then you will die and will have to start the whole episode all over again. This episode is also limited to two difficulty settings, casual & survival, which is not a good thing as even on casual difficulty this episode is a bit of a "struggle" to play.
"Little Miss" - The gameplay for this episode is (as best as I can describe it) Metal Gear Solid meets Resident Evil as your main goal is to "sneak" past monsters and while this sounds pretty cool in concept it is anything but cool here because 1. you can't attack, defend, or stealth kill enemies at all and 2. if you get spotted period it's an instant game over. On the bright side at least they do not make you start all over again if you fail like they do in "The Struggle" as this episode makes use of a checkpoint system.
Sound
Like with the main game the music for both episodes are pretty solid
Scare Factor
The scare factor is pretty much non existent in these episodes especially if you've played through the previous episodes. These episodes, especially "Little Miss" do however have a lot in the way of atmosphere with sections of "Little Miss" trying to evoke the foggy look & feel of Silent Hill.
Pros - fairly short (can be completed in less than an hour), fills in a few gaps in the main game's plot
Cons - The Stuggle is a bit of a struggle even on casual difficulty, having to start The Struggle from scratch if you die or fail to collect enough supplies sucks, forced "stealth" sections
After all is said and done I give "The Struggle" a 5 out of 10 and "Little Miss" a 6.5 out 10. They aren't horrible by any means, but they are a bit challenging and are not really worth playing unless you want to "see" everything the story offers after beating Episodes 1 - 4.
Overall Resident Evil Revelations 2 as a whole was a pretty good game overall and for the $25 price tag of the digital "Complete Season" version you got a lot of bang for your buck (as of right now I've sunk 98 hrs into the game which entailed playing all the episodes at least 2 to 3 times plus completing approx 85% of all the Raid Mode Gauntlets and I'm still not close to 100% completion.....see image below) especially considering how replayable each episode is. This game is also imo currently the best "modern" RE game since 4 and is definitely worth checking out in one form or another especially if you are a long time fan of the series, which is why I give Resident Evil Revelations 2 a 8.5 out of 10.
NOTE: I highly recommend that you DO NOT play these episodes until after you've completed the main game and have at least gotten the
good ending
as these two episodes especially in the case of "The Struggle" contain some story related spoilers. Story
"The Struggle" - The story for this episode takes place between the
end of Claire & Moira's scenario and the start of Barry & Natalia's scenario
and follows Moira as she and Evengy struggle to survive."Little Miss" - The story for this episode takes place in the same time frame as "The Struggle" but follows Natalia as she searches for her lost teddy bear Lottie
