Welcome to part 4 of my Resident Evil Revelations 2 mini review, this week I will be reviewing Episode 4 entitled "Metamorphosis", which also acts as the game's "finale".
Story
Just like the previous 2 episodes this one picks up where the last one left off with Claire & Moira taking an elevator ride up to the top of the tower for a showdown with the game's main villain "The Overseer". Meanwhile Barry and Natalia make their way through the mines after once again escaping from the grasp of the Overseer.
Gameplay
This week's episode plays pretty much like the 3 previous episodes though Claire & Moira's final campaign is much much shorter than the three previous ones (it's about 15 mins long) as Barry and Natalia take center stage (with about an hour/hour & a half long campaign) for the big finale. In Raid mode this episode introduces 2 new gauntlets (technically it's one gauntlet plus a final mission) a new playable character (the overseer which can be unlocked once you've beaten the final mission/gauntlet), the ability to change certain character's (Claire, Barry, & Moira...so far) costumes (I've so far found 3 for Claire, 1 for Barry, and 1 for Moira )once you've beaten the game and/or completed a specific requirement and a new difficulty setting called Code RED which can be unlocked for each gauntlet once you've beaten them on Very Hard difficulty.
Graphics
Graphically this episode (on the PS3) was a bit of an improvement over the previous episode as there was no noticeable stuttering through out though there was the rare pop in/graphical glitches and a very rare instance in which an enemy ghosted itself into a wall.
Sound
Like the previous episdoes the sound/music here was pretty solid
Scare Factor
Overall the Scare Factor in this episode is pretty low (I'd say its about a 1 out of 10), but the creep factor is a bit higher as the final sections of the game really start to ooze atmosphere once you reach the underground "mansion".
Pros - gameplay is still pretty solid, they really upped the creepy atmosphere in this episode, the final boss fight (if done "right") is pretty decent imo
Cons - Claire & Moira's final campaign is really short and kinda anti climatic as it feels like it's sole purpose is to tie in neatly into Barry & Natalia's final campaign, this episode isn't very "scary" and is a bit more action oriented until you get towards the end.
Toss up - The game's two endings......yep you read that right this game has two endings. For some that may a good thing and for others not so much cause that means you have to replay the game (once you know what you need to do) to get the other ending. Then there's the matter of which one is the "canon" ending, etc. well in the case of this game it's pretty easy to figure out which one is the "canon" ending as it's a bit longer and kicks ass (I kinda wish I had gotten this ending the first time through).....the other ending is a bit short and is imo a bit meh.
Overall this episode is pretty solid as as it wraps almost everything up (except for a few "loose ends" which are for the most part covered in the "bonus" episodes The Struggle & Little Miss), lays(from the looks of it) the foundations (potentially story & gameplay wise) for Resident Evil 7, and depending on the ending you get finishes (imo) on a pretty high note which is why I give Episode 4 "Metamorphasis" an 8 out of 10.
Next time on Madman Gamer Reviews..........Resident Evil Revelations 2's "bonus" episodes entitled "The Struggle" & "Little Miss" as well as final thoughts on Resident Evil Revelations 2 as a whole.
