Welcome to part 3 of my Resident Evil Revelations 2 review, this week I will be reviewing the newest Revelations 2 episode entitled "Judgement"
Story
Just like with episode 2 this week's episode picks up right where the previous one ended, Claire & Moira head to a nearby factory to meet up with fellow captive (Claire & Moira's boss) Neil. Meanwhile Barry & Natalia manage to escape the clutches of the game's big baddie and have to navigate through the sewers to find a way out. Also another "big" plot twist (one that was pretty much telegraphed in the previous episode....to the eagle eyed) is "revealed", further tying the game back to Resident Evil Revelations.
Gameplay
This episode plays just like the previous ones, but with a bigger emphasis on puzzles this time around.....I should also mention that with this episode I noticed that some of the puzzles & atmosphere in Claire & Moira's section evoke the look & feel of The Evil Within. In Raid Mode two new playable character's are introduced, Neil (Claire & Moira's Boss) and Claire's brother Chris Redfield as well as 2 new sets of gauntlets which mostly feature a blend of stages from RE 6 & Revelations 2.
Graphics
Graphically this episode (for the PS3) has been the worst one so far as this episode had a lot of noticeable clipping and slowdown. Outside of the clipping & slowdown this episode maintains the previous episode's atmosphere and level design.
Sound
Pretty Solid
Scare Factor
This episode's scare factor is about a 3 out of 10 as there aren't really any scares in the episode and the few (light) scares that do occur are often tied to the puzzles.
Pros - still solid game overall, more puzzle focused, solid boss fight in Claire & Moira's section, reeks of creepy atmosphere
Cons - there is a (imo) bad "major" plot twist in Claire & Moira's section of this episode that was essentially telegraphed during the previous episode, lots of slowdown & clipping that wasn't present (at least for me) in previous episodes.
Toss Up - Parts of this episode evoked the look & feeling of The Evil Within and for some that may be a good thing, but for others it may very well be a bad thing. For me I was fine with it overall as I enjoyed The Evil Within and I found it a kinda fitting homage considering that The Evil Within's creator Shinji Mikami was also the creator of Resident Evil.
Overall this episode wasn't too bad, but it didn't really blow me away like the previous episode had. Throw in some graphical issues, slowdown and it's "could see it coming a mile away" plot twist this episode kinda took the wind out of the sail for me which is why I give Resident Evil Revelations Episode 3 - Judgement a 7 out of 10. Hopefully next week's finale (along with the 2 bonus episodes) turns out to be just as kick ass as Episode 2 was and finishes the game on a high note.
