When it comes to foreign horror movies I'm pretty much the equivalent to a f&**ing idiot (or Dr. Dark if you will) as I don't often watch those kind of movies (though unlike with Dark....or at least I think it's Dark....it's not because of the whole subtitles thing) it's mostly because my experience watching these kind of movies are pretty much hit or miss....mostly misses. So it's always a nice treat to hear about or come across one that's more of a hit than miss and after watching Housebound based on the recommendation of the TMHS crew & fellow listners I'd have to say it's more hit than miss. For those of you (like me) who don't often follow or watch foreign horror cinema Housebound is a 2014 New Zealand horror comedy about a troubled woman (played perfectly imo by Morgana O' Riley) who is sentenced to 8 months of house arrest in her mother's potentially haunted house after being arrested for trying to breaking into/rob an ATM machine.
Pros - well directed, well written, well acted, well shot, and incorporated some (imo) awesome nods to a few horror classics which I won't mention cause they tie into the movie's plot and I don't want to spoil that shit.
Cons - I can't really think of anything negative other than there being a few rare occasions where I had trouble trying hear/understand what the actor's were saying due to their accent.
Overall I give Housebound an 9 out of 10 and can easily say that this movie is definitely worth checking out if you get the chance (especially if you like horror comedies and/or haunted house movies) as it is one of the few good foreign horror movies I've seen in recent years.
