I always struggle with this decision when I decide to get a new release from amazon. Do I spend the money for the quality picture of blu-ray? Or save a few bucks with the standard DVD? I find a DVD a lot more convenient when lending it out or having a movie night at the lady's place. Considering, majority of the people I know do not own a blu-ray player.
So...what do you prefer? Do you have any guidelines before spending more on a blu-ray? Is it time to start upgrading your collection?

Well, you really need an HD flat screen to really enjoy a Blu-Ray. Some people say there isn't a difference between it and a DVD. That's bullshit--at least for me. I have Glaucoma and I can most definitely see the difference! The picture is way sharper and more crisp. Playing a DVD on both a Blu-Ray and a flat screen just isn't the same. You can tell that the DVD is blurrier. Also, a Blu-Ray holds more special features, which is a big deal for me b/c there's no point in buying movies if you don't get extras. Otherwise I'd just download them. I want more bang for my buck. And I've noticed that BR discs are starting to go down in price. So yeah...BR all the way for me.

HD TVs are also going down in price, btw. So upgrading is easier now than ever. And for those of you who don't have one...you don't know what you're missing.

I just got a 47 inch Philips LCD Flat screen TV and HOLY GOD what a difference in picture quality! Again, Blu-ray is 10 times better than DVD. Way more clear, way more extras. Love it! And lately I've seen Blu-ray discs for as low as $10--mainstream movies too, not B-movies. Target alone seems to have price dropes every single week.

Niccee! Have you noticed the LED TVs? They're a trip. The cg stuff is so much more noticeable and the dof is so vivid. I have been spending the $ on br with specific movies, newer releases for obvious reasons. I just got that old horror classics set, 40 movies! I've been watching them all on mute and they're quite enjoyable silent!

It's good that TVs are becoming more clear b/c that will force the movie studios to up their game in creating better CGI, which is good for us b/c nothing looks worse than bad CGI (especially in horror.)
