Hey everyone tav here with part 3 of my 5 part series of reviews on horror documentaries. This entry will focus on the 2009 documentary His Name Was Jason which is Directed by Daniel Farrends, Written by Anthony Masi, and hosted by Tom Savini.
Pros: Well made, lots of interviews, lots of Special features, for the most part covers every Friday the 13th including lightly touching upon the recent remake, runs in at 1 hr and 28 minutes long, and very loose and relaxed/doesn't take it self seriously.
Cons: missing actor interviews (Glover, Bacon, and Feldman) who are replaced with interviews of actors not associated with the series ( James Roday aka Shawn Spencer from USA TV show Psych, Felissa Rose aka Angela from Sleepaway Camp, Steve "Uncle Creepy" Barton, Seth Grahame-Smith), not a lot of "new" stuff is discussed/repeats stuff mentioned in previous releases of Friday the 13th movies DVD bonus materials.
Overall I give His Name Was Jason a 7.9 out of 10 because it is a fun light hearted documentary that focuses on the character of Jason Vorhees, the movies he appears in, his back story, his victims, the survivors, and how they pulled off the effects instead of just focusing on the Friday the 13th movies themselves. This documentary is like the Never Sleep Again documentary only it's much shorter and is structured differently by inter cutting footage of host Tom Savini following around a potential victim through the Camp Crystal Lake section of Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights in between each segment. Also this documentary just like the Never Sleep Again documentary has a lot of interesting special features including The Men Behind The Mask (interviews with all the Jason Vorhees actors/stuntmen), Final Cuts (deleted interview segments), From Script to Screen writing a Friday the 13th movie, Fan Films which includes the AVGN Friday the 13th episode, Shelly Lives short film, and The Camp Crystal Lake Survival Guide just to name a few features. I would recommend this documentary if your a fan of the Friday the 13th movies even though you don't really learn a whole lot of new stuff since most of the stuff has been brought up in the bonus materials for previous Friday the 13th DVD releases and no interviews with Crispin Glover, Kevin Bacon, and Corey Feldman .

I hope you enjoyed the review, I will be back on Thursday with part 4 which will focus on the documentary Going to Pieces, also it looks like I might have to extend the VOTE: 13 Days of Halloween event by a few days because as of right now there is a 11 way tie and only 6 spots so please go vote if you haven't already.
