A big yo-yo and hello from here, deep in the heart of the glass furnace that used to be called Texas. It’s hotter than a two dollar whore here y’all. It’s so hot here people are bursting into flames all over the place. I’ve seen it. Anyway, seeing how it’s so hot, I’ve decided to compile a list of ten horror movies that have a summer or heat related theme to them. I was gonna rank these movies from 1-10, but I’m lazy today so what I’m gonna do instead is just post ‘em up and give y’all my rating for each film. Ya dig? Ok, before I start ram-ram-rambling, let’s get to this week’s shit.
WIGWAM’S HOTTER THAN HELL HORROR MOVIES
STAND BY ME (1986) A Stephen King adaptation, from the novella, ‘The Body.’ Not really a horror film, but it is from SK and it does take place in the summer so fuck it. It goes on the list. This is one of my favorite King adaptations and I can say I’ve seen this movie about 100 times. Gotta love the Barf-O-Rama scene. ‘...Lard ass! Lard ass! Lard ass!’ I give this movie a solid 4 outta 5.
FIRESTARTER (1984) Another King adaptation from the novel with the same name. This movie is about a little girl (Drew Barrymore) who has pyrokinesis and the government agency that wants to control her. With a title like Firestarter, how could this not make my list. I give this heat related movie a 3 out of 5.
WOLF CREEK (2005) This film is about three backpackers who are held captive by a crazy motherfucker. This film is also based on the ‘backpack murders’ that took place in the ‘90's. This thing is violent, gory and down right fun to watch. I give it a 4 out of 5.
DELIVERANCE (1972) Complete with mongoloid banjo playing hillbillies, this summer horror flick really disturbed me. It was the ass raping of Ned Beatty that put me over the top on this one. ‘...Squeal like a pig fer me!’ Egads!! No more camping for me...EVER! I give this a 2.5 out of 5. It was a bit dated, and it lagged a bit, but it’s tolerable.
THE HILLS HAVE EYES (2006) I just hope I never break down in the desert. If I was ranking these movies in top ten form, this would be at the top of my list. Aja directed, you can bet this film has plenty of blood, guts, gore and graphic violence. I give this a 4.5 out of 5. I’ve seen this thing countless times and enjoy it every time I watch it.
SLEEPAWAY CAMP (1983) This lil nugget came out back when the slasher films of the 80's were dominating the horror genre. I’ll never forget the ending of this film, it freaked my shit out!! The sequel is damn good too, maybe even better. But as it is I give ‘Sleepaway Camp’ a 3.5 out of 5.
JAWS (1975) No way you can have a summer horror movie list without this classic. I know we’ve all seen this thing a hundred times but still...it’s fuckin’ Jaws y’all. 4.5 out of 5.
FRIDAY THE 13th (1980) Slasher classic. Jason needs no introduction here. He is horror’s biggest badass. How could you not want him on the list? 5 out of 5 for my man in the hockey mask.
FROM DUSK TILL DAWN (1996) Robert Rodriguez directed, Wigwam approved. I really like this film. I can’t believe that there isn’t a soul out there that hasn’t seen this yet. And if you do fall into that category, get off the computer and watch the thing. The Cheech scene is the best! ‘...Come on in pussy lovers!!’ Total 5 out of 5 here y’all.
THE DEVIL’S REJECTS (2005) Yeah, I know there’s some people drinking the HATERADE on this one, but as I’ve said before, my list, my rules. I dig this movie, I can’t help it, I find it highly entertaining. Captain Spaulding is funny as hell! This is a bad as movie y’all. 3out of 5 for Mr. Zombie and his devil’s rejects.
Well, there you have it. I guess that’s all there is and there ain’t no more. Not for this week anyway. Until next time, take care, stay a-scared, and I am out.

awesome list wigwam, all I have to ask is................why did you have to bring up Deliverance......why?...........I don't need to be reminded that I live less than a hundred miles from where that kind of shit fucked up takes place (FYI I'm talking about banjo playing bluegrass loving hillbillies living in a remote and mountainous region that hate city folk.....not where the movie actually took place or was shot)......as for other summeresque horror movies don't forget Tremors, Silver Bullet, The Monster Squad (even though it technically takes place in the fall...it's still an awesome movie about kids going up against monsters.......kick em in the nards kick'em in the nards...the wolfman doesn't have nards......just kick em in the nards....okay.....(howling pain followed by a thud).....the wolfman's got nards!!!!! ) and finally the Roger Corman produced R-Rated recently remade Jaws ripoff Piranha.

Are they re-making/remade the 'Monster Squad?' No shit, there's really hillbillies close to where you live? That's fuckin' awesome man! That's right! Silver Bullet did take place in the summer, 'round 4th of July right? Are you geeked about the new 3D-Piranha? Idk, kinda over all the 3-D shit, I saw 'My Bloody Valentine 3D' and it really didn't do that much for me.

I've heard rumors that they were but so far I haven't heard anything definitive, no shit I live about a hundred miles from the eastern part of the Appalachian mountains, I'm approx 50 miles east of Yadkinville one of the northern mouths to the mountains and where they have annual bluegrass festivals and almost everyone there is a bible thumping bacco chewin deer hunting/lake fishing loving southern good ol boy ( I know this because I use to work for a small company based there and all the guys from there always talked about nothing but deer huntin, fishing, bluegrass and country music, and half of them used chewing tobacco which by the way is plain disgusting), I'm approx 100 miles South South East of Appalachian State University in Boone,NC which is surrounded by mountains (and is a great place to go skiing/snowboarding....I know this from personal experience....one year I went Snowboarding up at Grandfather Mt.) , and 150 miles northeast of Asheville,NC where the supposedly haunted Biltmore Estate is located and is the biggest city in the heart of the mountains (oh and fun little tidbit I'm approx 60 miles west of North Carolina's famous Devil's Tramping Ground)....and yeah Silver Bullet did take place around the 4th of July because Gary Busey's character Uncle Red gave Marty fireworks that he could sneak away from the house with and set off since the 4th of July fireworks celebration had been canceled due to the deaths/murders. As for Piranha 3D I've been wanting to go see it but so far haven't been able to though that might soon change.....I actually kinda liked MBV 3D though it mainly was because I saw it in theaters with a lively crowd which made it better than it was.....if you saw it at home or in a theater with a dead crowd then I can see why you think that it was meh okay....

Man, I wish I had some mountains here, I live on the west side of Fort Worth, Tx just about 4 minutes from the downtown area. I got nothing but city, buildings, traffic and a ton of concrete. Idk if I could deal with the hunting talk all day long, I'm more of a city dweller. I've only been campin like once and I hated it! Too many bugs and it was too effin' hot. I saw MBV like on a Tuesday afternoon and there was hardly anyone in the theater so I kinda didn't get the cool crowd vibe. What's Devil's Tramping Ground?

I've never been to Texas, in fact the farthest west I've ever been was Franklin,NC which is about 30 miles north west of the NC/SC/Georgia shared boarder and 60 miles east the NC/Tennessee boarder ( though I eventually hope to change that.....going further west I mean). Also Fort Worth sounds a bit like Raleigh,NC which is also nothing but concrete and congested interstate highways. That sucks not being close to the mountains or the beach, I know I couldn't live out there in Texas ( hot weather and I don't get along.......and what sucks even more is that it has been getting hotter here in North Carolina than usual.........I wish October would get here), the only state I think I would like to live in other than North Carolina is Massachusetts because I've been to the state on a few occasions and had a great time........I'd love to live in Salem...been there twice already and while I was there ate at an awesome pizza place ( Firehouse pizza and subs in downtown Salem) and went on a couple of ghost tours..(oh and FYI if you are a tall like me then don't take the House of the Seven Gables tour ......for the duration of the tour my head was a target for every low beam in the place( they had a 75% success rate).....and there are quite a few of them....by the time the tour was done I had a splitting headache and was briefly convinced that I had a concussion....which of course I didn't and if you are a big person do not I repeat do not go up the secret stairway because it is small/narrow as fuck and you might get stuck and with a bunch of people behind you....not a good idea). Do you at least get some fall weather/leaves falling or have a haunted attraction around Halloween?......for instance right outside Greensboro,NC every October this company sets up a haunted trail called Kersey Valley's Spookywoods where they change the layout/themes every year....last time I went they had a haunted house, a tram ride to the haunted corn field maze( where they had a guy dressed like Michael Myers jump at the people riding the tram, had guys dressed up as Jason and "arab terrorists" hiding in the corn field complete with an old shit house, fart sounds and a guy speaking with an arab accent talking to "himself" about his upset stomach, having diarrhea, his love/hate relationship with burritos and other shit), a haunted "mine/cave", a trail through the woods where they had a guy dressed as leatherface carrying a chainsaw chasing people down the path before stopping right outside a spooky fog filled cemetary where people wearing zombie make up would pop up out of the ground and chase you to the cemetery gate, and to end it you had to go through "The Vortex" which was one of those spinning rooms and you had to hold the guard rail all the way through. As for your question about The Devil's Tramping ground it is basically this giant 40 ft circle of dirt out in the middle of the woods near Pittsboro, North Carolina where nothing grows inside the circle, stuff placed in the circle mysteriously disappears overnight, on some nights there are supposedly strange occurrences that happen nearby and local legend has it that at midnight on certain nights of the year the devil himself appears in order to walk the circle and release some evil forces into the world from the depths of hell.....................I'm convinced that's how we got Dick Cheney(....I know .....I know....BOOOOOOO......... political joke......I couldn't help myself )

Y'all got a ton of cool-ass Halloween shit in your area! We have some ok stuff here too. Mostly we have haunted houses in an around the city. They're ususally in old abandoned buildings downtown. We do have a couple of haunted hay rides, but they're kinda more for kids. The best bang for your dollar are the haunted houses. They're a bit $$ but fuck it, Halloween comes once a year. We do have a couple of haunted hotels and restaurants in the area, I've been a few times for dinner and stayed a few nights in the hotels but never saw anything. I have been on a ghost tour, it was in NoLa. It was HOT, HUMID and crowded as a motherfucker. You have to go in groups of six, and there were only four of us so we had to go through the tour with a couple from Oklahoma, they were total tards and kinda fucked up our vibe. Anywho. We do get cool weather here, in fact it's like 70 something now, which for early September is awesome! We get now in the winter some, last year we had two HUGE snowfalls. One on Christmas eve and one in Feb. But yeah, man, it's hot in the summer. We had like 26 days in a row of over 100. YIKES!! But I think that shits over for the year. Fingers crossed. Best advice for Tx summer, Find someone with a pool, become best friends, and hang out there as much as you can.
Btw, the dude farting and bitching about his stomach is FUNNY!! Funny shit!! I would've tweeked out on that!! Hey man, how close is the hurricane to you? Are you having to like board up windows? I lived in Houston for ten years and had to evacuate three times 'cause of a hurricane. Fuckin' sucks. Ike was the last one I left for.
Also, before I forget, good luck in tonight's draft, should be fun. Take it easy man.

we usually hit 100 a few times but rarely on consecutive days, usually it just feels like it is 100 outside even though it's really in the mid 90's, right now we have been getting between the mid 80's to the mid 90's so hopefully by the end of the month we will be down to the 60's and 70's. That sucks man I hate it when you are grouped with annoying people on tours....I had that happen to me on this ghost walk tour during my first trip to Salem, MA (and it was also unusually humid for a New England September evening). oh spookywoods and devil's tramping ground are nothing compared to the Myers House which is this house that was built two years ago this guy living near Hillsborough, NC ( located between Burlington and Durham...home of Duke University). This guy built a full scale replica of the Michael Myers house from the original Halloween ( which he had pieced together the layout by watching and re watching Halloween) out in the middle of the woods and last year he and his family held this huge open to the public Halloween bash there at the house. They had a Michael Myers costume contest, a giant Michael Myers cake, some Carolina based horror movie celebrities attending, Halloween merchandise raffle ticket prizes, a tour of the house for those who arrived early enough, and the piece de la resistance a giant 20ft screen and a projector out in his front yard that played the original Halloween and original Halloween 2 back to back.....and it looks like he's going to hold another bash this year on Halloween ( myershousenc.com/bash.htm ). As fir the hurricane I live far enough inland that I don't have to worry about boarding up windows or evacuating, the only times we feel the effects of hurricanes are when they come inland anywhere between New Orleans, LA and Morehead City, NC ( and yes that really is the name of a city here in NC) any further west or north of those two cities then we don't get any rain or wind and if it skirts the outer banks like Earl did then we don't get anything unless the eye of the storm is what skirts the outer banks.....yeah thanks man, same goes for your draft, talk to ya later man.

Before I forget and start rambling on and on, the Meyers house party sounds UBER-COOL! that's fuckin' road trip worthy. Y'all got the Halloween shit going on! (PS, I'm a HUGE Duke BB fan) But yeah, that Meyers thing sounds/looks awesome!! I can't wait for fuckin Halloween! We even have a nip in the air tongiht (59 degrees) For Tx, in early Sept, that's RARE. But I gotta say, y'all got it going on in the way of Halloween. And I thought we had some cool shit here. Did you go to that last year? (The Meyers House) I just checked out the link and saw the list of movies. I never heard of 'Judith' have you? ANyway, hope you did good on the draft, I fucked myself on the bye week thing I think. I got another draft (In person) tomorrow afternoon, I'll make sure and look at the bye weeks this go around. Looks like you have a pretty good team though. Ok man, take it easy, have a good weekend, and I'll talk at ya later.

I Unfortunately didn't get to go because I was attending another Halloween party, but I am definitely going to try and go this year, as for Judith it is a short film that the owners of the Myers House made with a local film maker and is a prequel to Halloween that follows Judith Myers last day alive.....right now it is currently online for free ( myershousenc.com/judith_theatre.htm ). Yeah I'm overall pretty happy with my draft because I managed to get half of my overall number one picks ( I made a list prior to the draft of my top seven players/teams in each of the six positions QB,WR,RB,TE,K,DEF). The only downside was when I looked at both my upcoming opponents and my own teams projected point totals for the first six weeks of the season. If the yahoo fantasy football stat projections end up being correct (which I really hope doesn't happen) then I'm going to end up with a 1-5 record for the first six weeks which really sucks. Also I don't think you can join another live draft now that our league has done it's draft.... I know that you can participate in a mock draft but those results won't count....also I've looked at your team and here's some advice, you need to pick up a second QB,K, and DEF with a different bye week so that when you're main QB,K, and DEF have their bye weeks you will have a back up. Also by adding those three positions your going to need to drop three of your bench players to make room for them. When you cut the three players make sure that you keep a TE, a WR, and a RB and that their bye weeks do not fall on the same bye weeks as your main TE,WR, and RB that way you can substitute your bench players in for the week your main guys have their bye.....I hope this helps, talk to ya later, and have a good weekend

Heya! Thanks for the advice my friend. I've been kinda fuckin about on there today. I am about to dump TJ Housh...and get a backup QB. D/ST and K, I'll cahnge those out from week to week. (Especially D/ST) Since we can make as many waiver moves as we want, why not be a waiver wire whore. IN the other league I'm in, we charge 3$ a move after the first 4. Good way to increase the pot, ya know. I think I have some good RB's, but my WR core is avg to maybe a little below. But the flex player will help me. I'll most always start 3 RB's. I got by last year with two sub-par WR. (Hester, and Bowe) and came out in 2nd place. I wouldn't worry about the yahoo projections, I usually look at other shit and go off of there. Matthew Berry of ESPN is pretty good. And that Rogers dude from foxsports has some ok rankings. To me, fantasy football is some skill, but alot of luck. Should be a fun season though. I can't wait until tomorrow night! By the way, are you gonna do the pick em thing?

no problem, I'd hold onto Housh now that he is on a good team in Baltimore plus I guarantee if you do drop him to waivers everyone will be fighting for him since he is a good WR...if you are going to drop someone drop a no name player who is on a bad team......I'm glad my fantasy baseball league doesn't have that rule because I'd be funding about half the pot ( I'm ranked #2 in my league and am #1 in # of moves, having made over 55 moves...sad thing is the #1 guy has only made 2 moves all season long) ....well here's hoping I have an butt load of luck with Santana Moss, rookie's Dez Bryant/ Aaron Hernandez, and Panthers DEF ( they were the #1 overall Def during the preseason and I'm hoping that carries over into the regular season). I'm excited for all the games this week especially the 1 pm games on Sunday when I get to switch between the Pats/Bengals game and the Panthers/Giants game ( I've even got my Julius Peppers Alternate Carolina Panthers Jersey out and ready to wear). As for the pick'em football, no I'm not going to do it because I'd be lucky enough to correctly predict only one maybe two games a week.

Good point on Housh. But with Boldin and Mason, I worry about his touches. Santana should be a good play this week, he usually torches the Cowboys. Dez, I don't know. He has potential though for big plays but...Panthers D should be stout, I actually picked up Arizona D today, (they play the Rams) This is where I gotta root against you. Dude, I'm a total Giant/Yankee fan. (And Yes, I get shit all the time about it living in Tx.) So, I'm gonna have to pull for big blue in this one. I got my Eli Manning jersey ready as well. Should be a great game. Not sold on the Giant's D though. And Jacobs, I don't know...they couldn't run the ball last year. As far as pick em, I may suck too. But what the hell. By the way, do you watch Red Zone? It's bad ass!! I got in on it last year about halfway thorough the season and have it ready to go for this Sunday.

that's good to know about Moss, yeah Dez is a bit of a question mark since he didn't play in any preseason games but was a good player in college so I'm hoping that it carries over to the NFL. Well apparently I've done something wrong because half of my friends are Yankee fans (if you can't tell by now I am a Red Sox Fan.....and no I have not given up on their chances to make the playoffs and will not give up until they are mathematically eliminated, once they are eliminated I hope that they play spoiler to end the Yankees chances of getting another AL East pennant and force them to enter the playoffs as a wild card team and have to play on the road for most of the playoffs instead) sorry to hear about that,oh well guess we'll see how badly the Giants get beaten.... no I don't have it, right now I have plain'ol Time Warner Cable so I'm getting seven games this week and usually five maybe six games a week for the rest of the season which is fine by me because I will usually get some great games (like the Pats/Bengals game and the Cowboys/Redskins game) and occasionally some so so games (like the Raiders/49ers game, the Bears/Panthers game, or the Cardinals/Falcons game)...the only thing that sucks about Time Warner is that they don't support the NFL Network like the other cable service providers.
