Am I the only person who thinks episode 4 was kinda weak and silly?
*SPOILERS*
A stereotypical Mexican gang (e'say) who secretly have a heart of gold and are running a nursing home? What the hell. Also, although it's been a while since I've read the trades, it seems that the show could be diverting heavily in many areas, which makes my confidence in the series long-term kinda shaky.
Don't wanna sound too negative, I have enjoyed the hell out of it so far and am looking forward to next week. Just think this episode was kinda weak.

Yes Fray, I agree. The middle of the episode was pretty lame, but the end made up for it.

Episode 5 tonight. One more episode to go. Also, I heard that season 2 won't be back until October 2011, BUT it will be 12 or 13 episodes. Cool beans!

Am I the only person who thinks episode 4 was kinda weak and silly? *SPOILERS* A stereotypical Mexican gang (e'say) who secretly have a heart of gold and are running a nursing home? What the hell. Also, although it's been a while since I've read the trades, it seems that the show could be diverting heavily in many areas, which makes my confidence in the series long-term kinda shaky. Don't wanna sound too negative, I have enjoyed the hell out of it so far and am looking forward to next week. Just think this episode was kinda weak. The Pros: - Stunning visuals in the very beginning (LOVED the scenery) and a cool shot of Atlanta, showing just how close the camp is from the city--which is important later when the zombies attack. We finally saw people getting eaten by the zombies.
- Rick showing his future leadership.
- Glenn's smarts when planning how to get the bag of guns--he made sure to cover every possible attack from the zombies.
The Cons:- The "gang". OK. I did like the twist--after all, when you're trying to protect weaker people the best thing to do is make yourself look tougher than you really are. I'd be less likely to attack an armed gang than a group of people who look unprepared--but that's just me. However, I think this plot was a little unnecessary for a show that just started. Too much is happening! We're just getting to know people and know they throw in an entire gang, a kidnapping, a showdown, and an old folk's home. Less is more sometimes.

So. Episode 5. Well, it had its good and bad points. I'm not sure how I feel with where they're taking it. It just seems like too much is happening too fast. The main characters are starting to develop nicely. You care what happens to them--just like their comic book versions. At least I do.
The scene with Andrea and her (SPOILER HERE!) now dead sister was good...and bad. You felt sorry for her b/c as far as we know Amy was her last surviving relative. So it kind of made sense that she would stay with her right up to the point of zombification (if that's a word.)
And that leads me to the bad. I don't know about you, but I don't think of zombies as living dead bodies. But in The Walking Dead they are treated as so--at least it appears that way. First, they can smell. How is that possible? In order to smell you have to be able to breath. Dead things don't breath.
Well, in the ep we discover that they apparently do. The first sign that Amy is "zombifying" is her low, slow breathing, followed by twitching as her body begins to reanimate. Now, the twitching thing was good--it's something I would think happens as the body reanimates. But breathing? No. I think of zombies as dead bodies that move. Nothing more. I don't think they digest or go to the bathroom or sleep or any of that. They're dead meat walking around. Why do they eat? I like Return/Living Dead's answer: It hurts to be dead and eating eases the pain. Simple yet powerful reason.
So, yeah, I had a problem with the breathing. One other thing that was kind of interesting was how Amy acted when she reanimated. She seemed to sort of recognize Andrea. I say this b/c she didn't attack her the second she opened her eyes and saw Andrea. Also, some of her body language seemed to indicate that she was actually trying to communicate with her sister. When she grunted and moaned it seemed more like she was trying to talk instead of displaying your typical zombie attack scream. If you go back and look at that scene you'll notice that Amy doesn't even have her teeth bared and her face shows no sign of hostility.
So what does all this mean? Maybe the reanimated corpse possesses memories for a brief period when it first awakens and then slowly loses them, creating the savage, flesh eating cannibals that we know and love. Who know.
What are your thoughts, folks?

Here are all of the episodes online: www.tvdex.org/shows/the-walking-dead/season-1/ts-19It's streaming so you may need to pause a bit for it to fully buffer. *SPOILERS* I thought the CDC would be a substitute for the prison in the comics but I'm starting to think that the series will have very little to do with the comics. At this point Shane would be dead, Tyrese would be a part of the group, and Herschel's farm would be making an appearance I think. (I'm really hoping the generic 'T-Dog' is not Tyrese) I'm starting to think that none of the more shocking events are going to happen here, such as anything involving The Governor, (like the beating and raping of Michonne, decapitating Tyrese, severing Rick's hand, killing 95% of the characters including Lori and her baby, etc...) so I'm just gonna try to sit back and enjoy it for what it is and forget about the novels. Sucks though that it will be almost a year before we get any more new episodes.

Well, I've read that Robert wants Season 2 to follow the comics a bit more. He wants Herschel's farm and the prison. Frank himself has said that he can't wait to get to Tyrese and Michonne. It just takes time, folks. And I don't understand why everyone wants to get to the prison so fast. We need to see the characters suffer a little longer before that happens, otherwise we the audience won't appreciate it when they find it. I say let them find it at the end of season 2.
As for the CDC and Shane, Robert was happy about these. He said that the reason he killed Shane off so quick was that he wasn't sure if the comic was going to last more than 12 issues or not so he hurried the story along. He now regrets killing Shane so fast, as the triangle plot would have been much better played out over time. As for the CDC, I don't think he realized it was in Atlanta, so he didn't include it. Had he known he would have put it in the book.
And as for all the extra cast members most were made to be killed off--I guess so we could have the main cast around longer. Robert has said that he loves Daryl and that he wished he had created a character with a crossbow for the comic, so Daryl may stick around longer--but who knows for sure.

So who wants to guess what the scientist whispered to Rick at the end of the season finally? Here's my guess: He took blood samples of everyone right? Well, that means he would know that Laurie is pregnant (just like she was in the book). That's why Rick had a surprised look on his face. My only question is did he also tell Rick that it's Shane's? After all, he would know that info as well, after all. Thoughts?

I think Daryl is a pretty interesting character, although the 'guest starring Norman Reedus' credit never gave much confidence in his longevity.
