Hey everyone tav here with review #2 of the weekend, this review is of the 2008 direct to dvd movie How To Be A Serial Killer which recently made its debut on Netflix Instant Watch. The movie is written and directed by Luke Ricci and stars Damien Clark, Matthew Gray Gubler, and Laura Regan. The movie is about a serial killer named Mike(Clark) who takes loser video store clerk Bart (Gubler) under his wing and tries to teach him how to be a serial killer.
Pros: interesting take on serial killer, practical special effects, and some good acting from Clark who makes his character Mike the serial killer a somewhat likable guy despite killing people for no reason other than they acted like assholes around him, and it's only 90 minutes long.
Cons: Bad Script, Bad Acting (except for Clark), written/shot/edited like a motivation seminar, infomercial, and documentary all rolled into one complete with segments on a infomercial stage in which Mike discusses one of the 8 rules for being a serial killer, one dimensional characters.
Overall I give this movie a 3 out of 10, its a piece of shit that is so bad it ripoffs parts of the movie Mr. Brooks.....the only difference between the two is that the serial killer in this movie doesn't have split personalities, they don't follow the cops who are trying to catch him, the killer doesn't get naked and sit on the floor watching as he burns the photos he's taken of his victims, the protege isn't even close to being the asshole protege Dane Cook was in Mr. Brooks cause he's a fucking pussy, and the ending is different and yet still a bit upbeat if you can believe it. This movie pisses me off almost as much as Halloween 2 and I am tempted to go all Angry Video Game Nerd on this piece of shit, but the filmmakers would probably consider it an honor that someone took the time to discuss their movie. The only things I like about this movie is actor Damien Clark's role as Mike the Serial Killer and the charismatic way he talked about and went about killing people......for instance in once scene he's driving down the road with his protege Bart when he notices that the car behind him is tailgating, he then proceeds to slow down, the guy beeps the horn and turns on the high beams, Mike flips off the other driver, sticks his head out the window while yelling obscenities and then gets the poor bastard to pull over so that they can duke it out, as soon as the other driver stops his car behind them, Mike grabs his gun gets out of the car and shoots the other driver before he can even get out of the car, gets back in his car and drives off. I wouldn't recommend this movie to any one let alone my worst enemy (that honor goes to Halloween 2 and Barney the Dinosaur Movie), so don't watch it unless your a bit of a masochist and enjoy inflicting upon your eyes as many of the biggest pieces of shit ever committed to celluloid you can find......and I know they are out there....just listen to the Foywonder over at Dread Central talk about movies made by The Asylum.
Well everyone I hope you enjoyed my review despite it being one of the few negative reviews I've written (the most negative one being my review of Halloween 2......it's so negative that I went all out AVGN on it) anyway next weeks review will be a special double feature review of the British Horror Comedies The Cottage and Severance.
