Hey got another review of a Masters of Horror episode, its the season one episode Sick Girl, directed by Lucky McKee (Stupid name, great director) who also directed the film May, which I have not seen, but I know a lot of people love it.
Before I get to my review, here is a comment for the moderator of this thread: I somehow started my MoH thread in the general horror thread, but this is pretty much a straight up review. If the other readers wanna post a full review (whatever someone considers a "full" review is up to you), you should post it in the Reviews thread. But I want to keep the general thread on Masters open for like comments and general talking about the episodes, not just reviews or comments on reviews.
Ok, Sick Girl is a killer episode, I'm pretty sure Dr. Dark MUST see this fucking episode, because it largely revolves around a Lesbian love story.
Our protagonist is a woman named Ida Teeter ("Teeter Totter"), a bookish entomologist with a killer collection of creepy bugs. Ida is a lesbian, a single lesbian, due largly to her collection of creepy crawlers. She confides in her lab coworker Max, a horn-ball entomologist who trys to convince Ida that she must choose between "Babes, or Bugs."
Not heeding his words, Ida grows attracted to a girl who sits in the lobby of her work, a quiet long haired red head named misty. Misty sits in the lobby all day and sketches fairies, but Ida isn't sure if she is a lesbian because she "can't look into her eyes", she can only tell if a girl is a lesbian by looking in their eyes.
Anyway, Ida finally grows the balls to ask Misty out, they kind of akwardly hit it off, and slowly the become a lesbian couple.
Misty eventually finds Ida's bug collection, and as it turns out, her father was also an entomologist so she is not turned off by the bugs.
I forgot, before Ida and Misty start dating and eventually living together, Ida gets a mysterious package in the mail, with a large, unknown specimen, a huge mean motherfucking bug. This bug, in classic horror fashion, gets loose, and starts running amok in the apartment building where Ida lives.
SPOILER ALERT: Misty encounters the loose bug before Ida does, and unfortunatly the bug infects misty with some heinous shit in her ear, and she slowly starts turning into a zombie bug monster. Sometimes Misty's acting isnt that great, but the makeup effects in the later part of this episode are so goddamn amazing, you will forget all about some stiff acting.
I shouldnt say much more after all that, this episode is in my top five MoH episodes for sure, maybe I will have to do a top 20 list of episodes. This one is way up there.
4.25/5
