Hey guys, I was checking out some of the horror movies on netflix instant watch and came across this very cheesy little gem of a movie called Dead and Breakfast(2005) a horror comedy starring the late David Carradine, Diedrich Bader, Bianca Lawson, Ever Carradine, and Erik Palladino. It's the story of six friends on their way to their friends wedding who get lost and stop in this small little texas town to stay the night at the local Bed and Breakfast and accidentally unleashes an evil force that starts possessing the townsfolk turning them into pseudo zombies who then start hunting & turning everyone else in town, the survivors hole up in the bed and breakfast and try to figure out a way to recapture/trap the evil force before it kills them.
Pros:
This movie is very bloody/gory, has from what I can tell no cgi at all( it's all practical effects and there are a lot of them), takes numerous elements from My Name is Bruce (Music and Transitions), Evil Dead 1&2 ( Chainsaw used against the possessed, people being possessed by a evil force, people trapped in a house, characters making homemade weapons, character having fun with decapitated heads), and Dead Alive (extreme use of blood and gore, mimics a scene from the movie) just to name a few.
Cons:
Now let me say that there is some bad dialogue (involving the possessed.....who can talk, sing, and in one instance dance),bad acting ( coming from characters who play minor roles), it takes musical and transitional cues from My Name is Bruce ( I put this as both a Pro and Con because it's an interesting way of moving the story along/telling the backstory but is also annoying as hell at times), and there is some bad editing( I think the editor was either high or the director didn't get enough coverage because there are some awkward cuts/shots that stick out like sore thumbs) which makes it a little bit harder to have fun with/fully enjoy this movie unless you and some friends are watching it completely shit faced.
Overall I'd give this movie a 5 out of 10, because it's an average horror movie that tries to be like the 1980's cult classic horror comedies of Sam Rami and Peter Jackson. While this movie does deliver on the horror aspect with barrels of blood and body parts it for the most part fails to deliver on the comedic aspect( except for a handful of scenes) due to some bad dialouge, bad acting, and bad editing that make the jokes/gags fall flat. I would recommend this movie to people who are gore hounds ( it's like the filmmakers were listening to AC/DC's You Want Blood You Got It while making this movie) and those who are just looking for a good time watching a cheesy movie with friends over a couple of cold beers.
I can't wait to see if ya'll agree or disagree with my assessment of the movie, and I hope you enjoyed my review.
P.S. let me know if I went a little overboard or didn't go far enough with my review because I'm wanting to post more reviews in the future (Severance, Ginger Snaps, and Cherry Falls to name a few) , but since I'm not use to posting reviews on forums I want to make sure I've got the proper format/structure/length down so that I don't go pissing people off by having an obscenely long posts (like this one.....sorry ;D)or by spoiling the movie for them (which I have tried to avoid for the most part).
