Welcome to another Ajax review. Here I am going to talk about Infection. This review contains spoilers.
Trivial things about it:
1. Its a J-Horror movie( Japanese-Horror)
2. Its made by the same people who made the Ring, Grudge and Dark Water.
3. Uses alot of color symbolism
The movie itself overall was great but the ending was nigh. Anyone with no brain can say that a horror movie and a hospital just belong. It seems that a patient was killed in a stressful situation and was given the wrong drug. The doctors and nurses keep it quiet and say it was natural. They stay over night as they try to heat the dead body up so he can decay faster and have the chemical they accidentally mistreated him with to get out of the dead body's system. The problem is that a person came in here earlier with an infection that was necrotizing but worked faster than necrotizing faciitis. It was so gangrenous that it made the blood green and the symptoms were weird before hand. They would get an emotional stir up and/or a no emotion stance before they started bleeding green everywhere.
Now the first thing I noticed is that the amount of red and green in this movie. Obviously but not in all cases red meant clean but the green meant death. A reference is made to this in an office when talking about a patient that hallucinated her family in the mirror and said "Do you wonder why red stays red? In light or any material?" and she took a red apple and put it under a green colored lampshaded lamp. Lights were green and red, objects were green and red such as boxes signs, cigarette boxes.
Now these guys are falling one by one to this infection nurses and doctors but are starting to wonder how this infection spreads and what they should of done. But what kept this movie going was Dr. Akai. He shown signs of little to no emotion making you think he was infected at first but he wanted to study it and try to get famous and bullshit. The other 2 doctors wanted to call the cops or disease control and it seems that Dr. Akai was very persuasive and had Dr. Akiba the head doctor and another doctor think about it and notice the body went missing and are sent to look for it. In the mean time the nurses are caught up this infection and well I can say blood and tons of it ensues.
To get to the ending which was a little retarded as they left a few VERY important loose ends untied. You find out from Dr. Akai talking to Dr. Akiba that the virus was spread mental and got into the subconscious and that seeing the green blood or any other hallucinations was merely guilt caused by what happened to the patient early that was a burn victim and was bandaged fromthe torso to the face which was actually Dr. Akai and he himself was a hallucination. Dr. Akiba was talking to a mirror picturing himself as Dr. Akai as one of the nurses for the morning staff comes in.
So practically it was a mindfuck...there was no virus but a subconscious problem called guilt. It was a fucking genius idea but the the sick part is you find out that he tries to shoo the nurse away from the infection that has spread or so he thought and he cuts his finger with scapel to see if it was real or not and his blood was red. The nurse then screamed when she saw the dead bodies of the nurses and doctors and Dr. Akiba tried telling them it was an infection but she called the cops.
I laughed my ass off seeing as this guy gets arrested for spending an entire night fending off a fake infection only to get charged for murder which we are not sure of as that pissed me off because that was a loose end. It ends off with that nurse maltreating a patient and as she leaves she trips and everything that was green is red and red is green even her blood and it ends off there.
In my opinion it had a good backbone for the story. The blood was there and it came out in body fulls in one scene. The deaths were enjoyable and sometimes funny but overall kept a very scary but definitely creepy atmosphere for the movie and kept you in your seat as some of the bodies disspeared or you just don't know whats lurking in that door or behind that corner. The ending at first was confusing but turned into a bit of a dissapointment as you don't figure somethings out as you need to string alot for you to get it and I'm not even sure what happened or how they all really died. But either way you seem the die gruesomely that is all we really need anyway
I am going to give it a 8 out of 10. The ending obviously contributed to why it wasnt a 10 and the lack of not being able to see some dead bodies or just getting blood when a gore factor needed to be considered. THIS A MUCH WATCH FAST MOVIE.
Thank you guys for reading this review. If you have comments plz leave them and if you have any tips for me to use in my reviews or maybe a movie you would want me to critique I'll do it but don't count on my too much as I'm poor as hell and its hard for me to even rent a movie. BUT I WILL TRY!
