Welcome to the official MFL Week 1 recap thread, this week we kicked off the 5th season of the MFL which ended Monday night and saw 3 of the 6 games being decided by 10 points or less while the other 3 games were decided by 28 points or more. With Week 2 almost here (begins tomorrow night at 8 with the Steelers vs. Ravens game) we'll get to see if this trend will continue and if the teams who won by 28pts or more will be able to repeat this week's performance in Week 2.
The Bastaaaards (Duncan) vs. Backfield Penetration (Monster Mark)
BackfieldPenetration, down 3.10 on Monday night, gave The Bastaaards a glimmer of hope, then ripped it away and smashed The Bastaaards 95.36 - 58.90. BackfieldPenetration got 28.40 points from Julius Thomas and 25.06 from Carson Palmer. The Bastaaards failed to live up to expectations and scored only 71.0% of a projected 82.94, while BackfieldPenetration scored 9.4% more points than projected (87.13). The Bastaaards was led by the tag team of Le'Veon Bell, with 25.70 points, and Pierre Garcon, who scored 7.70. Both teams left points off the scoreboard in this one, as BackfieldPenetration started one player with zero points and The Bastaaards also served up two. BackfieldPenetration (1-0) starts the campaign in fifth place while The Bastaaards (0-1) opens in the cellar.
Grave Robbers (Girl Graves) vs. Go Blue Girl (Joanna)
Grave Robbers took advantage of the third-highest player score of the week from Andrew Luck with 32.70 and got past Go Blue Girl 102.40 - 94.16. Go Blue Girl met expectations and got 1.0% more than their projected 93.23 points, while Grave Robbers just fell short of hitting their projections and put up 98.1% of a projected 104.35. Go Blue Girl was led by the tag team of Calvin Johnson, with 28.40 points, and Dan Carpenter, who scored 13.00. Grave Robbers starts the campaign with a 1-0 record, good enough for third place. Go Blue Girl debuts at 0-1 and in eighth place.
The Taint(Brett) vs. Free Josh Gordon (Dusty)
Free Josh Gordon (1-0) got the win over The Taint (0-1) 94.12 - 85.66, led by Drew Brees with 18.52 points and Matt Forte who scored 16.90. Free Josh Gordon must believe that the early bird gets the worm. They scored first and went into Sunday in front 10.00 - 0. They let that melt away like a popsicle on the fourth of July and they trailed 76.66 - 68.62 after the early Sunday games. However, following the late Sunday games, Free Josh Gordon regained the lead for good with the help of 16.40 points from Vernon Davis.
Dark's Dragons vs. Free Josh Blackmon (Jerry)
Free Justin Blackmon got the second-highest point total this week to beat Dark's Dragons 107.76 - 77.06. Dark's Dragons failed to live up to expectations and scored only 77.6% of a projected 99.36, while Free Justin Blackmon scored 6.4% more points than projected (101.30). For Dark's Dragons, Peyton Manning and the Carolina Panthers Defense played the roles of Maverick and Goose, scoring 28.46 and 10.00 points, respectively. Free Justin Blackmon starts the campaign with a 1-0 record, good enough for second place. Dark's Dragons begins at 0-1 and in 11th place.
Of Hogs and Hokies (Danny Trioxin) vs. The Fighting Kittens (Smoke/SmokeTNT)
Cordarrelle Patterson recorded 18.80 points, an improvement on the projected 8.36, as The Fighting Kittens beat Of Hogs and Hokies 95.38 - 87.84. Each team fell short of expectations, but The Fighting Kittens managed to score 90.3% of a projected 105.68 points for the win. Of Hogs and Hokies was led by the tag team of Russell Wilson, with 22.54 points, and Roddy White, who scored 13.20. The Fighting Kittens (1-0) kicks off the season in fourth place while Of Hogs and Hokies (0-1) opens in ninth place.
MadMan Gamers (tav7623/madmangamer) vs. Rock Terror (CA Bain)
MadMan Gamers has to like where their team is at after they put up the highest point total in the league this week, taking down Rock Terror 126.12 - 97.62. Rock Terror, who only scored 96.6% of their projected 101.08 points, made it easy on MadMan Gamers who won by scoring 28.3% more than their projected 98.33 points. For Rock Terror, Matt Bryant and Philip Rivers played the roles of Maverick and Goose, scoring 18.00 and 15.52 points, respectively. MadMan Gamers (1-0) starts off the season in first place while Rock Terror (0-1) debuts in seventh place.
